Gemma Lee is an Australian writer and director with a background in visual arts and a Master’s in Writing and Directing from the Victorian College of the Arts. Known for her cinematic storytelling and meticulous attention to performance, she has become a sought-after director for major local and international advertising agencies and brands. With extensive experience in high-end TV commercials, narrative content and music videos, Gemma is skilled at leading large crews and complex productions to deliver visually striking, emotionally resonant work.
Her short films have screened at major festivals including Palm Springs, Fantasia Fest, the Oscar accredited Flickerfest and Tribeca. The Wake, starring Angus Sampson and Gulliver McGrath, was nominated for the Jury Prize at Tribeca and won Best Film at St Kilda Film Festival. Most recently, she was a recipient of the Screen NSW Fast Track Initiative, which funded her latest short film, Echoes in Time. Gemma is currently in development on The Hunger, a series adapted from The Bluffs, and Echoes, a feature film supported by Screen Australia and Screen NSW.
